Scripture #17

There was an evening recently when I was standing in the kitchen doing the dishes, the kids were playing in the living room, and Nathan was gone to work. Most of the day had been spent with the kids, correcting manners, doing schoolwork, refereeing arguments, and trying to keep everyone on a healthy schedule (as much as possible with 3 kids)! Nothing too much out of the ordinary, nothing too exciting. But as I stood in the kitchen by myself, the thought came so clearly to my mind, "The Kingdom of God is here."

Here. Now. In this.

Do you need to hear that reminder today too, wherever you are? The Kingdom of God is within you. Wherever you are--in your office, in your kitchen, with your kids, in a church, alone, in a crowded grocery store--repeat this: "The Kingdom of God is H E R E."

Sometimes we don't even recognize it. Often we wait for someone else to affirm it. The Kingdom of God just sounds so big and royal and awesome. And our days usually feel so, well, ordinary.

But isn't that how He comes?

When Jesus said these words to a group of Pharisees, he was answering their question of when the kingdom of God would come--and He told them, "The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs. Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

They were looking for something else. And He told them it was already in their midst. It was in His people, all around them. They just didn't recognize it.

We're not waiting on anything. He's already come. The Kingdom is already here, and this is what it looks like. May we change how we see our world so we recognize His Kingdom in it. Amen.
