Scripture #8

Updated: May 18, 2019

My 5 and 6 year olds love to collect rocks and keep them on the windowsill in their bedroom. Most are pretty ordinary rocks, having been picked up near parking lots or a random field or park, with a few from more memorable places like our trip to the mountains or beach. They come in all shapes, sizes, and shades. Most don't look very remarkable. However, it's pretty impressive when you think about what can be built with the strength and endurance of simple rocks and stones just like the ones sitting on my kids' windowsill.

The Word of God is a rock for you + me. It's solid. It endures. It is strong + powerful. The pages of your Bible and mine may not look that extraordinary, but a life of faith + hope is built on the strength found in the truth of these pages.

First Peter 1:24-25 calls the Word of God “the living and enduring Word of God.” When you are confident in something solid and firm, you can build on it. You know that it is enduring and will stand. You can put a stake in it and trust that it will not change.

What an incredible gift we’ve been given in the Word of God! We can build our lives on the truth of God + on His promises, knowing that His Word endures and stands firm forever. May we appreciate the incredible beauty in the truth + strength + promise of God's Word.

May we build our lives on the enduring Word of God.

“Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” (Psalm 11:89)
